The Titanium edition comes with more than most, of course, and then there’s the optional $3,800 package that includes everything in that $1,300 package plus active lane assist (which will beep at you and then automatically steer the wandering vehicle back into the lane), a split-view front camera with its own washer, and inflatable rear seat belts. The new Edge can be almost overwhelming with its cutting-edge technology. There’s plenty of storage too, as you’d expect from a vehicle this size: Cupholders, cubbies, a covered compartment for your phone in front of the gear selector with two USBs, an auxillary socket and an SD card reader, and even a hidden shelf compartment on top of the dash. A central speedometer is the only dial, but small displays to each side on the cluster can be set to show real-time vehicle information – pretty much anything you might want to know is available. The instrumentation is clean and easy to use, with a wide range of adjustability. A panoramic sunroof that opens at the front is a lovely addition, though it’s only available as part of a $2,000 package with navigation. There’s a range of choices for two-tone colour schemes, but the overall effect is well balanced with brushed aluminum highlights around the instruments, air vents and console. A four-hour drive to Ottawa from Toronto was effortless, with no squirm from passengers in the front or back. The cabin is very attractive and the sport seats are extremely comfortable. This option also gives you the blind-spot warning and cross-traffic alert systems, which saved my bacon more than once. The top-end Titanium trim level includes heated thick leather seats in the front you must pay an extra $1,300 for ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. There’s no disappointment inside the cabin. Distinctive driving lights beneath the headlamps around small air intakes, while the red LED lighting strip at the back stretches in a thin strip right across the rear hatch. If the 2.0-litre Ecoboost engine is under the hood, the active grille shutters will close as needed to improve aerodynamics, but the 3.5L V6 of the tester includes only fixed grille bars. The grille and lights are redesigned from before to look more aggressive there’s no mistaking the new Edge for the old. Even the cheapest trim level – the SE FWD, which begins at $29,639 – includes keyless entry with push-button start. From the side, its profile is sporty, with creases on the panels and a sloping rear window under a snazzy rear spoiler. The Edge is very well put together, with an attractive face and distinctive rear. It also comes with two new Ecoboost engines – a 2.0-litre available in all regular trims and a 2.7-litre as the only engine for the $48,067 Sport trim – and a naturally-aspirated 3.5L V6 holdover that was under the hood of the tester.
